Dine Like the President of the United States

          (Sarasota Fl.)  One of the highlights of anyone’s life would be receiving an invitation to a White House State Dinner. Imagine the glitterati, fabulous food, glamorous surroundings, not to mention the insider beltway gossip.

Didn’t get an invitation this year? Not to worry, now you can host your own White House Dinner with presidential food historian and A-list caterer Chef Larry Barrett who turns any house into the White House.  Chef Barrett, of Simply Gourmet Caterers, recreates culinary events hosted by the First Family going back to the presidency of Richard Nixon.  He recreates the actual menu, table setting, flowers and music — the complete ambiance of the dinner that you choose.

You might want to enjoy the luncheon that Jacquelyn Kennedy hosted for Princes Grace of Monaco in 1961.  But for the Republican National Convention in Tampa, (August 27-August 30) Barrett is suggesting  that visiting GOP delegates and their friends enjoy the dining experience that Ronald and Nancy Reagan hosted for Mikhail Gorbachev on December 8, 1987. The menu included Salmon and Lobster Medallions with a Caviar Sauce, Veal Loin with a Wild Mushroom/Champagne sauce.

You provide the guest list and Chef Barrett does the rest, including providing the host with an appropriate toast to begin the evening. “These Presidential dinners are a great way to celebrate food, life and American history,” said Barrett, who has recreated Presidential dinners throughout the country in private homes and public settings for parties of 50 to 250 guests.  Secret Service protection is not necessary.

“Some of the guests dress in the spirit of the era”, said Barrett.   Chef Barrett loves to share exciting Presidential culinary trivia with your guests-Hilary Clinton was the first to mandate plated meals instead of butlers passing platters of food to seated guests. The inspiration occurred after she witnessed several pieces of chicken hitting the floor-whoops.  Thomas Jefferson was the first to serve a buffet at the White House.  Did you know that President Nixon served only French wines for his Presidential dinners?  LBJ single handedly started the Tex-Mex craze in America.  I’m betting that creative hosts in Tampa Bay will want to organize a Reagan Dinner (or two) to help celebrate the Republican National Convention.  It’s performance art, great fun and the food is “over the top”.   Souvenir menus included, of course.”

Chef Barrett’s Presidential dinners, regardless of party affiliation, generally run about $200.00 per person for the complete White House experience. It’s an evening to remember and YOU are making history.
